Edward Mazria Receives the 2009 Hanley Award for Vision and Leadership in Sustainable Housing

The Hanley Foundation and EcoHome magazine will present the first annual Hanley Award along with its $50,000 grant to Edward Mazria, AIA, a pioneering architect, author, educator, and visionary. Throughout his career, Mazria has made significant and influential contributions to advancing sustainable housing --through the innovative homes he’s designed, his work in research and development, and his writings and educational outreach.

Energy Star Homes Gain Market Share

The EPA recently released data indicating that nearly 17% of all new single-family homes built in the United States in 2008 were Energy Star-certified, up from 12% in 2007.

AIA Reports Growing Demand for Smaller, More Efficient Homes

According to The American Institute of Architects' (AIA) first quarter 2009 "Home Design Trends Survey," demand for less living space and overall smaller-sized homes has increased in recent years. Homeowners also are showing a greater preference for lower ceilings and fewer two-story foyers than in past years.
